Kalmansohn & Andersen, LLP
was founded by Mark
E. Kalmansohn and Crossan
R. “Bo” Andersen primarily as an
entertainment, sports and intellectual property and business litigation
firm.
Mr. Kalmansohn and Mr. Andersen bring to the firm a diverse
background in virtually all phases of civil litigation, having handled a
broad range of legal matters for in and outside of the entertainment
and sports industries.
Both Messrs. Kalmansohn and Andersen served as
Assistant U.S. Attorneys (Criminal Division) in the Central District of
California.
Both served in senior positions with the MPAA’s Anti-Piracy
program (Mr. Kalmansohn as North American Director of Anti-Piracy
Operations, and Mr. Andersen as U.S. Legal Director of Anti-Piracy
Operations).
Though a small “boutique” firm, Kalmansohn & Andersen,
LLP offers the benefit of large firm experience along with a level of
personal contact that can only be achieved by a small firm.
The firm has represented numerous film, television and stage actors, celebrities, professional athletes, screenwriters, directors, producers, authors, independent production companies, major studios, and other rights holders. While it has handled a broad range of matters, the firm has had a particular focus on entertainment transactional matters (including negotiation and preparation of an assortment of licensing and other agreements), and pursuing or defending against claims of intellectual property infringement. Although both Mr. Kalmansohn and Mr. Andersen have litigated several cases from the filing of the complaint through trial, arbitration, or settlement, the firm prides itself on its emphasis on preventive counseling, which is designed primarily to minimize the risk of litigation. To the extent that litigation ultimately becomes necessary, the firm's philosophy is to represent the client aggressively, but efficiently, while often utilizing creative forms of mediation, in an effort to keep litigation costs to a minimum.
